Medium Shot

My interpretation of a medium shot is when a subject (usually a person) is in view from the roughly knees and up. This draws more attention to facial and body expressions while displaying  both a large section of the body and face closer, resulting in more detail being visible.

I think this has been used to draw attention to the main cast i.e Jonathan Creek, rather than the scenery. The result is that the views may tend to pay more attention to him, his stance and his attire rather than the set.
