Extreme Long Shot

My interpretation of an extreme Long Shot is when a scene or picture is captured from a great distance away and may be used to display the magnitude or detail in a set or setting, or to emphasise the scale of an object(s) etc. in comparison to the cast. Or as in this case to show the distance of the creatures from the doctor and his companions.

I believe the Extreme Long Shot was used here to create a sense of how big the set is and to draw attention to the setting and its detail, it may also be used to create a sense of urgency and fast paced action as shown in this scene the pterodactyls closing in on the cast at great speed. This in turn greatly effects the impact on the viewers as this establishing shot draws closer increasing the tension and drama. This also displays a sense of urgency or fear in the main cast as the doctor and friends desperately try to outrun the pterodactyls, (as the shot closes in it is refective of their fears closing in aswell).
